In a culture often caught up in the flash of the Hollywood life, Red Eye is a breath of fresh air.
The organization helps creative people simultaneously develop their talents and assist those in need. Their creative work ranges from supporting their friends and members at art walks, putting on their own shows to raise funds for public education in Africa, supporting art programs for youth, and even creating flash mobs for Haiti.
"We're all about taking whatever we have, whether it be our talents, abilities, or just mental concepts, and utilizing such for the bigger picture and striving to simply bring joy to others," wrote Red Eye founder, Justin Mayo recently on the Huffington Post.
"There are so many rewarding moments that Red Eye gets to be a part of. From seeing the smiling faces of children impacted by AIDS as we have incredible Bubble and Balloon Parties or the tears of joy and pride that stream down the man's face as we hand him the 'Strongest Man Competition' trophy. Those are the 'Glitz and Glamour' moments of Red Eye."
It's a good thing these guys are creative. Running a non-profit takes ingenuity -- in planning events, finding needs, figuring out ways to meet needs, and learning how to really stretch a dollar. Especially in this economy.
Thankfully, their creativity has paid off. For example, Red Eye went to the rough streets of Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles to do a Mother's Day Makeover for the ladies there. They fed seventy-five women and gave them all makeovers and a photo shoot. Even though they used top of the line make-up, hair products, and nail polish, they did it all.
For under $50.
