Keeping her hair

I heard a story the other day that has really stuck with me.

The husband of a friend of mine was recently delivering care packages to an orphanage in Russia where he saw a sad young girl.   When he asked her why she was sad, she said she was only allowed one capful of shampoo every three days and the caretakers had just told her they’d be cutting her long hair because it was too difficult to wash.

My friend’s husband handed the girl a care package from the pile and inside was a huge bottle of shampoo.  When she saw it, she could barely contain her happiness.  She gave him a big hug and said through tears, “Thank you so much - now I get to keep my hair.”

What a reminder of all we take for granted.

It took someone a little bit of thought, time and money to pack a care package, but the impact of that effort was priceless.

When you’re out shopping for the latest new toys and electronic gadgets for your clan this Christmas, don’t forget those in need.  Sometimes, just a bottle of shampoo can make someone’s day.
