A Sense of Decorum

David, Thanks for your post about the AMAs and Adam Lambert's attempt at shocking the nation. What's left to shock anymore? Madonna did it all in the 80s. We might want to note that at last year's MTV Video Music Awards, it was Russell Brand's taunting of the Jonas Brothers and their purity rings that got the attention. But did it get attention because it was shocking in itself? No. It got attention because Jordan Sparks used her acceptance speech to scold Brand and defend the Jonas Brothers and the notion of purity. Very effectively too. The people with anything new to speak into the culture are those with a sense of decorum. Everyone else is boring.

MTV Shows
