Family "Rallying" Points

As many of you know, the Wunderlis like to road trip.  Consistent with that general disposition, we loaded the family in the GMC Yukon XL this weekend and headed south on I-15, secure in the knowledge that on a per person basis, we were getting better gas mileage than that guy in the Prius next to us.  The trip contained the usual eclectic mix of Wunderli activities: a performance of Aida in a phenomenal amphitheater set among the red rock cliffs of southern Utah and watching our beloved Utes football team take on UNLV in Las Vegas (complete with the sort of drunken fan over-exuberance that led my daughter to comment that it felt like we were back at Yankee stadium).  There's nothing like ten hours in the car that can bring a family together, and tear it apart, and bring it together again . . . repeatedly.

One of the things I observed on this trip was the relatively few number of songs that our family of six could all rally around, and most interesting, what those songs were.  For example, the whole family, without exception, loves the entire two hour soundtrack of Les Miserables (except for "Master of the House" and "Lovely Ladies" which everyone prefers to skip).  Only a half hour later, everyone, without exception, rallied around Ozzy Ozbourne and "Crazy Train."  It was a musical reprise of the weekend -- sublime to primal expression.  I realized then that while there's no accounting for individual taste, there's a certain magic in the convergence of taste around a single event.  Between my wife and me, our 17 year old daughter, 15 year old son, 13 year old daughter, and 10 year old daughter, there are very few points around which we can all rally.  Musical theater and college football are two of them.  Anyone else have family rally points?
