The plus side of allergies

For the last month, there’s been a positive change in William’s behavior.  He’s been noticeably more mellow and polite – so much so that his kindergarten teachers have mentioned it.  After years of parenting, I realize I shouldn’t pat myself on the back when my children are praised, but I can’t say I'm not at least slightly proud about his good behavior.

Also, twice in the last couple of weeks I witnessed him with adults.

“Hi William!  How are you?”

“I’m fine thank you.  And how are you?” he said, looking them straight in the eye with maturity beyond his years.

I beamed and thought, “My oh my, he’s turning out to be quite a little gentleman.”

This past weekend, I found myself talking to a friend who’s been suffering from seasonal allergies.  She looked miserable and told me she was taking Zyrtec, which helped her a bit, but also made her feel slow and generally sluggish -- like her tongue wouldn’t move fast enough when she was talking.

William’s been on Zyrtec…for about a month.

It may be a rude awakening when allergy season is over.
