No TV for Two Years?

If you were just born, that's the recommendation from a new Australian report. Apparently, down under, the average four-month-old watches 44 minutes of TV a day, and a third of households never turn off the telly.

We're not sure about the methodology used in the study, which seems to be an anti-obesity polemic more than a statement on intellectual stimulation. Otherwise, how could they lump together the following as "inactive:"  "watching TV, reading, drawing, and solving puzzles."  Come again, mate?

But we tend to agree that parents need to be thoughtful about what and when their kids are watching. And really, "playing in the mud, and watching insects crawling" aren't such bad alternatives.
