“I Could Never Sleep When You Were Sick.”
“I could never sleep when you were sick.”
When we were young and fell ill, my mom became sick too, with worry. She’d stay by our side, watching our chests rise and fall. She’d explain this scenario with fresh fear in her eyes as if she were again watching chicken pox spread across our torsos and our temperatures rise at an alarming rate.
At the time, I didn’t respect it. I thought she was extreme, Type A and all those other things you might label someone who’s anxious, fearful and a little crazy.
Then our first daughter was born. And I was the one who couldn’t take my eyes off her because I was so in awe of her every breath. I’d worry when she napped "longer than usual,” ran a fever or didn’t gain weight. My worry was there, not because I was extreme, Type A or crazy, but because I loved my baby soooo much….
Let’s just say, I shamefully didn’t appreciate my mom nearly enough before I had children.
We at SixSeeds would like to say Happy Mother’s Day to all our own moms and to all mom’s who worry much, but love, care and sacrifice so much more.
