New on DVD: Source Code
Just one major release on DVD this week, but it's a good one.

The Gist: Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a US Marine who wakes up disoriented on a commuter train in Chicago. This is odd because his last memory is a firefight in Afghanistan and people keep calling him “Sean.” His name is not “Sean.” It’s Colter Stevens, which he explains for precisely eight minutes until the bomb on the train explodes and he’s sent back in time to the beginning point for another go at finding the perpetrator. Read our full review.
The Ups: This movie just works, all the way around. It’s tightly written, so while you may think you’re confused, the reveals that pile on make you realize you were just waiting for the “ahhh” moment. Gyllenhaal plays his character perfectly. The commuter train full of strangers becomes a train full of familiar characters by the end, when there’s a vision of perfect, ordinary American happiness. It’s like “Groundhog Day,” but with, you know, bombs instead of pianos and ice sculptures.
The Downs: Not really any, other than the cop-out identity of the bomber.
The Verdict: Absolutely watch it. “Source Code” is an excellent and entertaining movie.
Be Aware: The explosions and general feel are intense and suspenseful, but the PG-13 movie has no inappropriate sexual content and very little language. I would recommend it for kids who can handle suspense.
