New on DVD: The Innocent and The Jaded

What's new on the DVD aisle? We've got your rundown here, including a young man who has taken the world - or at least the world's ten year old girls - by storm.

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never

The Gist: This music documentary follows the pop superstar from his childhood in Canada singing in the kitchen to selling out huge concert venues. He makes girls cry. In a good way.

The Ups: Wholesome fun. Plus, if you work hard and have incredible talent, dreams do come true. Bieber was not originally part of the Hollywood machine that creates and sells personalities to tweens. He came up on YouTube with nothing but an incredible work ethic and a sweet voice.

The Downs: It’s Justin Bieber. Your teens will roll their eyes and your little girls will screech in excitement. Either way, you lose.

The Verdict: If you’ve got a Belieber in your household, watch with them. You just might feel yourself being won over.

Be Aware: Rated G, although his hair should probably get its own rating.

No Strings Attached

The Gist: A young man and a young woman decide to have sex without falling in love. It doesn’t go so well. Read our full review.

The Ups: Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher are likeable, enjoyable to watch, and go easy on the eyes.

The Downs: It’s not just the over the top vulgarity. The very fact that the main characters are so likeable makes the movie that much worse. In real life, if either of them behaved the way they did in this film, we’d all agree that they have bad character. It’s not just the casual sex either. Kutcher’s character gets drunk and calls every woman in his phone, looking for sex. Portman’s character abandons everyone who cares about her. In the film, it’s cute and vulnerable. In real life, you’d be calling hotlines.

The Verdict: Skip it and – for Pete’s sake – don’t let your teens or young adults watch it.

Be Aware: Rated R. Hard R. Extremely crude sexual situations and references. Drug use. Foul language. The works with extra raunch on the side.
