New on DVD: One Good Option

What's new to watch on DVD this week? Here's the rundown.

Green Zone

mystery thriller

The Gist: A soldier, a good upstanding soldier played by Matt Damon, rolls into Baghdad to find Weapons of Mass Destruction. But, golly gee, he just can't find any. Must be a conspiracy that reaches to the highest levels. Of the American government. Read our full review.

The Ups: There aren't really any ups in this film.

The Downs: Americans are either boorish liars or good guys caught in a bad situation. This film is a political treatise wrapped in a weak story line. It makes the argument that Bush officials created the myth of WMDs to get us into the Iraq war. Fortunately, it bombed at the boxoffice. Otherwise, many moviegoers might have taken this fiction as historical fact.

The Verdict: Skip it.

Be Aware: Rated R for violence and language. Also rated P for preposterous.

She's Out of My League

Romantic comedy

The Gist: A skinny loser starts dating a buxom hottie. He can't believe his luck. No, seriously, he can't.

The Ups: The first part of the film is very sweet, as the blond bombshell falls for the nerd.

The Downs: The second part of the film pulls out every cliche in the book. It also becomes extremely crude. Apparently, awkward vulgarity is the new funny.

The Verdict: Skip it. It has its moments but isn't worth your time.

Be Aware: Rated R for language and sexual content. IMDB Parents Guide.

The Last Station

Drama/Biopic

The Gist: Legendary writer Tolstoy nears the end of his life. It's a love story about a rocky marriage as well as a biopic of the writer.

The Ups: Luminescent acting and a fascinating character make this an excellent and thought-provoking film.

The Downs: No explosions. Kidding. This is a very good movie. No downs.

The Verdict: Rent it.

Be Aware: Rated R for a scene of sexuality/nudity. IMDB Parents Guide.

Remember Me

Romance

The Gist: A moody, rebellious (although not quite vampire moody) falls for the only girl who can understand him. But then there's a cheap-shot ending.

The Ups: Robert Pattinson, yes....Edward Cullen of Twilight...does his best James Dean impression. This is sure to make twi-hard fans swoon.

The Downs: Did I mention a cheap-shot ending? Also, the protagonists don't hesitate to jump into bed together, although the sexual action is implied rather than shown.

The Verdict: Skip it. Oh, who am I kidding? It's Robert Pattinson. Some people are genetically incapable of missing a Pattinson film.

Be Aware: Rated PG-13 for violence, sexual content, language and smoking. There is sexual activity between unmarried young people. IMDB Parents Guide.

Rebecca - great review! I agree with all your comments about "Remember Me", but I actually found Robert Pattinson's acting surprisingly believable in this movie! He's better at playing a human being than a vampire - who knew!
