New on DVD: It's Complicated

There's one major release onto DVD this week. Enjoy!

It's Complicated

Comedy

The Gist: Jake (Alec Baldwin) and Jane (Meryl Streep) have the perfect divorce. They have beautiful lives, new loves (Steve Martin for her) and happy young adult children. So why can't they resist rekindling the old flame? And why does it cause so much pain and consternation when they do? Read Nancy's full review.

The Ups: Baldwin and Streep have great chemistry. Streep, at 60-something, is radiant, and yes, sexy. A smart script and delightful acting add up to a good time, one that's surprisingly insightful about the long-term devastation that divorce causes. Plus, the California setting and houses are home magazine beautiful.

The Downs: Alec Baldwin's Jake goes through life, selfishly chasing his own pleasure without any real regret about the pain his actions cause.

The Verdict: Rent it. Packed with funny moments and all-too-human situations, this film packs a surprising punch. However, it's adult fare and not appropriate for the kiddos.

Be Aware: Rated R for some drug content and sexuality. An extended scene involving smoking marijuana is in line with liberal aging hippie values. IMDB parents guide.

At SixSeeds, we talk about the stories that surround modern life.  We love movies -- in fact, we even have a “brick and mortar” called SixSeeds Video in Winchester, Massachusetts! We know that good films have an amazing power to move, inspire, and sometimes even transform life.  Bad ones make you regret plunking down the $10 for the privilege of listening to the guy next to you chew milk duds for two hours.

That’s why we want to keep you informed of the latest offerings on DVD and Blu-Ray.  Listing the new releases below doesn't mean you should rush out and watch them with your pre-schoolers.  In fact, over the course of the next few months, we’ll list many we wouldn’t let our teenagers watch.  (Some, we regret watching!)  But somewhere in America, a teenager is going to come to their parent and say, “Hey, I’m supposed to bring the movie to the slumber party.  May I bring...?”

And right there in the aisle of the video store, a decision will be made.

Come back next week to read “The RunDown,” America... and choose wisely!
