Please tell us about yourself — your location, job, etc!
We are the Litton family and live in Franklin, TN. Joel works for Word Entertainment, a Christian music company, and Shannon works for The A Group in marketing and brand development with non-profits, ministries and authors. We have two daughters - Abigail (7) and Macy (3). We love our church family - Brentwood Church of the Nazarene - and are also enjoying new friendships with the amazing network of adoptive families in middle Tennessee.
When/why did you decide to adopt?
We have always known we would adopt. Ten years ago, before we had our biological daughters, we began the process of adopting two girls from Russia. Unfortunately, that adoption was not meant to be, but we had hopes that adoption was still in our future. Our greatest desire is to share the amazing blessings in our lives with our children, both biological and adopted, and to live a life that has eternal meaning.

Whom are you adopting, and from where?
We are adopting a boy between the ages of 12 - 24 months from Ethiopia.
When are you hoping to have your child home?
We have our homestudy completed and are awaiting approval of our I-600A so that we can officially receive a referral and finally lay eyes on our son! We hope to have him home next year.
What is your biggest apprehension about the process?
Adoption is not easy, by any account. There are so many steps to the process, often many setbacks and definitely a lack of control. We are learning to let go. We're not in control of the details. I recently wrote a blog post about these feelings here.

What has been the most surprising aspect of the process?
As we learn more and more about the numbers and conditions of orphans around the world, we are saddened and often shocked.
Have you and your spouse always been on the same page about wanting to adopt? (If not, what changed?) How did you tell your other children (if applicable) and families?
We've always been open to the idea of adoption. When we first met friends ten years ago who had adopted two girls, we saw an incredible picture of adoption and knew that we would someday adopt. I describe the decision here.
Is any organization or agency helping you to get through the process, financially, emotionally, or otherwise?
Holt International is our placing agency and Catholic Charities has done our home study. Our supportive friends, families, co-workers and church keep us going with their prayers and love.
