we have received nothing but support, excitement, and encouragement at the idea of bringing these brothers home from Ethiopia.
Please tell us about yourself — your location, job, etc!
We are the Tyner family, Jon, Angie and Jack. We live in Knoxville, TN where Jon serves as minister of music at Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Angie is a stay-at-home mom to our 6-year-old son Jack.
When/why did you decide to adopt?
Starting the adoption process in November 2009, adoption seemed to be the only way to add more children to our family since we cannot have any more biological children. But it has grown into a passion and an answer to the obedience to which Christ calls us. We believe the Bible gives us specific directions to care for orphans as well as bringing the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth. By adopting internationally we can accomplish both.
Do you have any biological children?
Yes, we have incredible son, Jack.
Whom are you adopting, and from where?
We are adopting 2 and 3 year-old brothers, Zekiyos and Zelalem, from Ethiopia.
When are you hoping to have your child home?
We're hoping to have them by December 2010.
What is your biggest apprehension about the process?
In the beginning, one of our biggest concerns was bringing a child of another race into our family and being accepted the same way as our biological child.
What has been the most surprising aspect of the process?
In contrast to what our biggest concern was, we have received nothing but support, excitement, and encouragement at the idea of bringing these brothers home from Ethiopia.
Have you and your spouse always been on the same page about wanting to adopt? (If not, what changed?) How did you tell your other children (if applicable) and families?
As a couple, we never once considered adoption prior to having a child of our own, but now we see that it was God's plan from the beginning. We told our son as well as our families that this adoption was a call to obedience by God and we needed to follow through and complete it. They couldn't be more excited!
Is any organization or agency helping you to get through the process, financially, emotionally, or otherwise?
Bethany Christian Services is the adoption agency that we're using. They've helped us seek out financial opportunities as well as given us advice on transitioning these new boys into our home. We also received a grant from Show Hope to help us with our travel expenses.

So happy for you guys. My best friend here in GA brought two boys home from Ethiopia in March (7mos and 5 years). They had 4 of their own but felt that God wanted more for them. It has been so much fun watching the boys grow. They have had many challenges but many rewards as well. The 5 year old had many things to adjust to but he is so amazing. Praying for you guys.
