Nancy French is an author, commentator, activist, and mother. Her next book, about the year her husband spent in Iraq, is due out Fall 2010.
Nancy French is the author of Red State of Mind: How a Catfish Queen Reject Became a Liberty Belle. She began her writing career as a Philadelphia City Paper columnist tackling many subjects with a light, humorous touch; her articles have appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer, The New York Sun, Newsmax, the Philadelphia Daily News, and National Review Online. She regularly discusses the week's news events on national public radio's Weekend America. An alumna of David Lipscomb University and New York University, Nancy lives in Columbia, Tennessee with her husband David (also on the SixSeeds board), two children, and her Lowchen puppy Goggo.
12 Things to Know About Nancy:
1. You won¹t really understand me unless you¹ve watched this movie(s):
Adaptation, Stranger than Fiction
2. I¹m most liable to get choked up when I hear about:
Adoption
3. If I had a completely free day to do anything I wanted, I would:
Let the kids skip school, jump in the car, drive to the Smoky Mountains, and ride the Thunderhead roller coaster at Dollywood.
4. My kids drive me crazy when they:
Think "put your socks and shoes on" means "lay on the floor with the dog and wrestle for the next few minutes."
5. I drive my kids crazy when I:
Sing 80s music and they end up walking around the house humming the tune to 867-5309 without any context of the song (actually, I have no idea what that song¹s about either, but the number does get stuck in one¹s head).
6. If you¹re going to give me a gift card, get me one from this store:
Honda -- I want to take the minivan plunge, but my friends staged a "minivan intervention"
7. I¹m most proud of my kids when they:
Are respectful to adults and their grandparents, and when they¹re generous to and considerate of each to other.
8. If I had a million dollars to give to a charity, I'd give it to:
The Center for Academic Freedom, a free speech institute my husband runs.
9. My go-to comfort food(s):
Chik-Fil-A¹s waffle fries and fried chicken
10. If I could snap my finger and make some problem in the world go away, it would be:
Fatherlessness.
11. Home chore or professional task I hate to do:
I don¹t mind folding clothes, but I can¹t stand to put them away in an orderly manner. So I always invalidate my work folding by stuffing socks into a shirt drawer or jeans into an underwear drawer (although, honestly, I haven¹t had specific, designated drawers in recent memory).
12. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I watch or read:
Battlestar Galactica, American Idol, and any version of The Apprentice (Donald and Martha)
